Who are we?

Faulconbridge Rural Fire Brigade is one of many volunteer brigades located across the State of New South Wales, Australia. The Brigade started in 1945 and currently has approx. 50 operationally active members with a reserve of approx. 100 people.
Our active members are linked by a pager system which is activated to alert members to emergencies and is also used for general communications.

Where are we?

Faulconbridge is set in the scenic City of the Blue Mountains, approx. 95 km west of Sydney. Our area of responsibility, Linden Creek to Springwood Creek North Face, is largely a bushland urban setting with some rural areas. The area has a population of approx. 10,000 people in 3,000 homes. Our fire station is in Railway Ave, Faulconbridge, where we have one Category 1 Tanker, one Category 7 and a Personnel Carrier.

What do we do?

Fight Fires in the Bush

This involves fighting fires that may be either close to property or in remote areas. The fires that we respond to may either be in our local area, within New South Wales, or elsewhere in Australia.

Reduction of Hazardous Bushland Fuels

This involves planning and implementing controlled prescribed burn offs of leaf litter and other fuels on the forest floor to reduce the effect of major fires in the future, should they break out.

Public Education

Public education on how to minimise the risk of a fire on your property, how to prepare for the bushfire season, and what to do if a fire approaches is an important component of our firefighting activities. A well-informed community makes a world of difference to a firefighting campaign.

Attend Emergency Incidents

This involves attending house fires, motor vehicle accidents and minor hazardous materials incidents in our local area in conjunction with the NSW Fire Brigade. We also respond to wind and storm damage in support of the NSW SES, as well as search and rescues in support of the NSW Police Service.
